Preparations For Hand Stitching

After a sunny week and Saturday came a wet windy Sunday. An ideal day for staying at home and enjoying sewing. I didn´t feel like starting anything new, therefore I gratefully reached for the partially prepared panels with Cori Dantini fabrics. Going through the pieces, I was actually happy with my work from two weeks ago. There were pieces of cloth already found and arranged on the background. I only rearranged some small pieces, added some lace and linen or took some details away.

One by one, the background parts were quilted, pieces were ironed on and sewn in free motion technique. Now, all the pieces are ready for hand stitching and embellishing, which I enjoy almost every evening.

Hand Stitching Cori Danti

 After finishing the spring bags, many scraps of the beautiful cloth pictures were left. I love Cori Dantini and I would never throw away an inch of her fabric. As using scraps is my favourite activity, I immediately started going through the beautiful pieces of fabric with their many amazing details and charming colours. Appliqué was the first and clear choice, because many scraps were prefused already. I tried more different background fabrics and finally opted for natural linen. The leftovers of cotton batting determined the size of twelve small panels, which are big enough for making six small zippered purses later.

I started with preparing pieces and layers of appliqué, arranging them on the background. The pieces of Cori Dantini fabrics were ironed on, the other scraps not. The fused pieces were sewn by machine in free motion technique, I went more times round the shapes and quilted also the inner lines. Then, my favourite time came: the evenings with needle and thread, quilting and embroidering the rest of the panel. Four pieces are finished so far, more will come.

Finished Bag No.48 - Australia

 

There is Easter Monday and I have not much time to write, nevertheless I would love to share pictures of the definitely finished bag „Australia“, which got the number 48. The final important touch was made by my husband, who attached the leather handles, thank you Tom!

It took 3 months to finish it, but I enjoyed every stitch. Thank you, Sue Spargo, for all the inspiration you share in your books and on your web!
