Pillows for Kids from Ukraine

Sewing pillows is not my cup of tea. But there are things you just must do. I followed the challenge of the Bohemia Patchwork Klub to create pillows for children of Ukrainian refugees fleeing Putin´s war and made three pillows, trying to make them as optimistic and bright as possisble.

I pray for peace, for the end of this absurd war and for a better life of all those brave Ukrainian people.

Quilt 5 – Berries

Quilt No.5 - “Berries” is finished.  It is clearly a part of the series but it is also quite different.

The background is natural linen and cotton cloth from my summer dye bath. I tried out more different colours of cloth and this one was love at first sight.

Step by step, a twig with leaves grew up. Unfortunately, there were not enough green shades under fabrics dyed by me to create the leaves and I had to use commercial cotton. The Quilters Shadow by Stoff (from my favourite shop of Ája Votrubcová) isn´t bad at all! I didn´t cut the fabric,  I tore it into the strips.

All parts of the twig are made from a dyed twill ribbon - I enjoyed the process of twisting, crinkling and sewing on immensely!

I used Quilters Shadow also for the blackbird.

I didn´t like the first attempt at the embroidery, mainly because of the colour of the chosen thread. Usually, I don´t unpick. This time I did and I like the new version much better. The biggest challenge was the eye of the bird, I was afraid I would ruin everything with an unsightly embroidery. But it turned out very well.

The berries were a challenge too, the balls had to be really small. It took one very long afternoon to make them and another one to sew them on.

The last step was quilting the background.

The quilt is finished now, I enjoyed every stitch, every minute. I love it.

Happy stitching!
